Interxion and Oracle partner on European interconnection service
Tue 7 Nov 2017
Interxion’s Frankfurt site is now an Oracle FastConnect location, meaning Oracle’s cloud is now available at all European Interxion sites through its Cloud Connect interconnection platform.
A leader in the European carrier-neutral colocation data centre market, Interxion hopes this offering will tempt enterprise businesses in with private, reliable and low-latency access to the Oracle cloud, as hybrid and multi-cloud strategies become increasingly popular.
Though only Interxion’s Frankfurt site will be a FastConnect site, Interxion customers that colocate their network and private IT environments in any European Interxion facilities will have access to the service through Cloud Connect.
Commenting on the announcement, Interxion platforms vice president, Vincent in’ t Veld, noted recent research carried out by the firm, which found that more than half (53%) of European businesses are looking into, or are already using, a hybrid cloud environment.
“We’ve created the ideal environment to build and operate such solutions, and now customers can reap all of the benefits of the Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, by building predictable and high-performance connections into Oracle’s range of cloud services,” said in’ t Veld.
“This includes Oracle’s software for enterprise analytics, marketing and resource management, as well as PaaS solutions for app development and beyond.”
From Oracle’s perspective, the firm sees partnerships such as this as an ideal way to provide dedicated, private access to its cloud services to enterprise customers.
Oracle Cloud Infrastructure SVP, Don Johnson, said: “Customers require seamless connectivity from their data centres and networks to Oracle Cloud for their most demanding workloads and applications.
“With the FastConnect Service from Interxion in Frankfurt, customers can provision the dedicated and private connections they need today and easily scale with their growing business demands.”
Oracle recently signed a similar deal with major global data centre REIT Equinix, giving customers private access to Oracle cloud at 16 of Equinix’s International Business Exchange sites worldwide, including in Frankfurt.
Interxion has a portfolio of 48 data centres in 11 European countries, each of which is ‘uniformly designed’, and, according to the company, gives customers ‘extensive security and uptime.’
Its recent third quarter earnings results showed a 16% increase in revenue compared to the same quarter last year. In the most recent quarter, the company saw significant expansion in Frankfurt, increasing its presence by 1100 sq. metres.
