City Backed-up by PCL UPS

Sun 27 Sep 2015

A long standing relationship and previous experience of Power Control Ltd’s (PCL) exceptional service made it the only partner choice for TClarke when it was required to deliver a complete Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) solution in under 48 hours.

The internationally renowned building services contractor was enlisted by one of its customers to provide a replacement back-up power solution for a central data centre. Located in the heart of one of the UK’s nominated environment cities, the data centre houses critical information for all those that live in and visit the city – any power failure could have catastrophic results.

TClarke placed the order with PCL late on a Friday evening. The order comprised of an online double conversion B9000FXS 160kVA UPS unit, batteries and DC isolator. PCL was also required to remove the old UPS and deliver, position, install and commission the new one.

Working in conjunction with TClarke and fibre optic infrastructure builder, which has a prominent position on site, PCL’s highly skilled team of engineers completed all works and commissioning by Sunday evening.

Commenting on this latest project, TClarke’s operations manager, Nigel Thomson said: “We have worked with PCL for a number of years now and are always impressed by the quality of service we receive. The team, from sales through to project management and engineering all operate professionally and efficiently. I knew that they would be able to meet our customers’ expectations and ours, without any problems.

“With regards to the UPS solutions provided by PCL, we have always found the Borri UPS units to be incredibly reliable. Whilst maintaining impressive levels of resilience, they also deliver in terms of efficiency rating, which has become increasingly important with customers. In this instance the Borri B9000FXS UPS units were the preferred choice because of their design characteristics being a perfect match for the control of harmonics created by switch mode power supplies in the data centre.”

Designed and manufactured in Italy, the Borri B9000FXS UPS range from PCL is an ultra high efficiency, transformer based solution and has a TÜV efficiency certification of up to 95%.  As one of the most resilient back-up power solutions on the market, Borri B9000FXS UPS systems are used in critical data centres infrastructures all over the world.

With a relationship spanning almost a decade, PCL is committed to Borri three phase UPS technologies and is the official UK distributor for the Italian manufacturer. PCL has a high level of engineering involvement, which is supported by its all encompassing service and maintenance programmes and high UPS and product spares stock levels. The company also receives invaluable direct manufacturing and technical back-up from Borri Spa.

PCL’s product sales director, Matt de Frece concluded: “We have worked tirelessly over the years to ensure that the UK market is able to recognise the supreme quality and performance of Borri three phase UPS solutions. The Borri UPS range is now regarded nationwide as one of the most resilient, efficient and high quality on the market.

“Aligned to our commitment to UPS technologies, we have also invested heavily in our service and engineering departments to ensure that our customers receive the very best quality of service throughout all their dealings with us. Our approach and diligent work ethic means we are able to complete projects with tight deadlines and complicated circumstances, such as the one we have just completed for TClarke.”
